✨ It’s #ArtifactFriday – where we highlight the Collection’s more than 35,000 original objects ✨ Today, we’re taking a closer look at the McFaddins’ Crazy Quilt. Crazy quilts get their name from the disorganization or lack of order in the pieces that make up the patchwork. These one-of-a-kind treasures are marked by irregular shapes, exotic fabrics, embellishments and detailed embroidery. Crazy quilts soared in popularity during the late 1800s and became an icon of the Victorian era. The McFaddins’ crazy quilt was made by Regina Incorporated in Louisville, Kentucky around 1935. It is constructed of gorgeous patches made of a variety of materials including damask, velvet, taffeta, satin and embroidery. Textile historian Rabbit Goody provided some interesting insights into what makes the McFaddins’ crazy quilt unique: “It is, in fact, quilted. Often crazy quilts are not quilted. They are simply pieced and put together on a backing.
