Check it out here:    / @sweetlifelanta   How to cook Tom ka: Tom ka is undoubtedly the most famous and delicious coconut soup. If you come to Thailand and didn't try it, is means you didn't really come to Thailand yet... Let me tell you all the hidden secret ingredients, so that you can cook it in a quick, easy and absolutely delicious way. Tom Ka or in Thai called ต้มข่า. The word Tom means boil and Ka means galangal. Tom ka is a popular coconut soup that you can find in many thai restaurants around the world. Thai people love to eat it with rice. Usually we are sharing a bowl of Tom ka and a few more dishes. TOM KA RECIPE! 2 portions Duration : about 15 - 20 minutes Ingredients: Galangal 1-2 Inches Lemongrass 2-3 stalks 2-3 leaves of kaffir lime. 1 green or red chili Shallots (small) 2-3 cloves Coriander root and stem Sawtooth coriander 1-2 leaves (optional) Spring onions for garnish 1 Lime Vegetables of your choice The classic dish is usually cooked with tomatoes, onion and mushrooms. But feel free to choose other vegetables for a more nutritious meal like I cook for my kids, such as baby corn, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli and more. Basically any vegetable you like. Meat of your choice. I used chicken bone, about 200 gram. Slice chicken to small pieces. You can substitute chicken with pork, beef, seafood or cook vegetarian with tofu or just veggies instead. 250 ml coconut milk If you like to know how to make coconut milk from scratch please follow my link below. While growing up, I see my mom making fresh coconut milk from scratch. Nothing beats a curry made from fresh coconut milk.    • Making coconut milk from fresh coconut |ขู...   250 ml water or stock. If you like a less creamy soup you can add more water, if you like a thicker soup like my video, 250 ml water is perfect. Seasoning: A pinch of salt and sugar 1 table spoon of fish sauce, vegetarians can substitute with salt When it comes to flavour you need to find your own balance of sour, sweet, salty and spicy (not too much) A few tips from me: Always start with small amount of sugar and fish sauce, you can add more later. If it is too spicy, you can add a bit more of water and coconut milk. Play with balance of sweet, salty and sour. But remember to add the lime juice AFTER you turned off the fire to prevent the lime flavour from turning bitter. Preparation: Slice the meat Slice the vegetables the way you like Slice lemon grass Slice or smash galangal Smash shallots Smash chilies Slice coriander stem and spring onions Smash the root of coriander (if you can find it) Prepare kaffir lime leaves. Cut lime to half When the preparation is done, it is time to put everything on the fire. It is important that all your ingredients are ready to go in the wok or pot and the seasoning is in reach. Turn on the medium heat Put 250 ml coconut milk in the wok Add water 250 ml. Add a pinch of salt Add lemon grass, galangal, kaffir lime, coriander root, shallots and chillies in. Add the meat of your choice Keep stirring Then add mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and any other vegetables you want. You are cooking the soup for a short time so if you add veggies that have a long boiling time, please boil them in advance.  Now it is time for the seasoning: Add pinch of sugar and fish sauce Remember: start with a small amount sugar and fish sauce and then keep tasting until you reach the balance you are looking for. When your Tom ka is boiling let it simmer for a bit then add coriander and spring onions leaves. When you are happy with the flavour of sweet, salty and spicy then turn off your fire. Squeeze half of your lime in then taste. Now you should have balanced of sour, sweet, salty and spicy Hooray! Wow! Job done! Now it's time to enjoy your Tom ka Thanks again for watching my video.
