Ek Azeem Dastango | Syed Muhammad Ashraf I.R.S | Dargah E Barkaatiya | Marehra Shareef This film chronicles the extraordinary life of Syed Muhammad Ashraf, a celebrated Urdu novelist and Sahitya Akademi Award laureate, who also served as a distinguished civil servant. A trailblazer, he was the first individual in India to clear the UPSC examination using Urdu. He rose to the position of Chief Income Tax Commissioner for the Government of India as an IRS officer. His brother, Syed Muhammad Afzal, an accomplished IPS officer, tragically passed away in 2020 after a prolonged illness, serving as Additional Director General of Police in Madhya Pradesh and holding various registrar positions at AMU and JMI. Syed Ashraf’s family are the custodians of the Barkaatiyah silsila of Marehra Shareef in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, whose spiritual lineage includes Imam Ahmad Raza Khan of Bareilwi. His eldest brother is a renowned professor of Urdu at AMU and the spiritual leader of the Sufi Barkaatiya silsila in the subcontinent, commanding a following of over two crore, thus placing him among the 500 most influential Muslims globally. Another younger brother of Syed Muhammad Ashraf, Syed Muhammad Najeeb Miyan Noori, is also a revered Sufi custodian of another branch of the Barkaatiyah silsila at Marehra Shareef. Together, Syed Amin and Syed Najeeb oversee a combined following of approximately 4-5 crore devotees in the subcontinent.
