Boy (2010), a heartfelt and hilarious coming-of-age film by the talented Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit). Set in 1984 rural New Zealand, this story captures the spirit of childhood, family, and imagination, all through the eyes of an 11-year-old boy who is obsessed with Michael Jackson. James Rolleston shines in his breakout role as Boy, while Taika Waititi delivers a memorable performance as Boy's charming yet flawed father. Such an unexpected film! This was recommended to me many times after my Once Were Warriors reaction. I laughed, I cried, and overall I really enjoyed this!
