Talash Urdu Ghazal from Kalame Sohail poetry music songs
Conceptual Journey & Poetic Architecture This ghazal, titled "تلاش" (The Search), is not merely a sequence of reflective verses but the unfolding of a single consciousness engaged in an ever-deepening search. It contains the seed of a lifelong intellectual and artistic quest. The recurring phrase "ڈھونڈ رہا ہوں" is not simply a refrain; it is the engine that drives the entire poem. Every couplet advances the search into a new dimension while preserving its central momentum. Matla – The Birth of the Quest The opening establishes the entire philosophy of the ghazal. The speaker is searching simultaneously for four powers: • The emotional storm • (طوفانِ جنوں). • The language capable of carrying it • (حرفِ زباں). • The musical essence hidden within language • (آہنگِ سخن). • The expressive force required to communicate it • (زورِ بیاں). The search is not for poetry itself but for the complete expressive apparatus capable of transmitting a profound inner reality. ________________________________________ Second Couplet – Why This Search Exists The speaker now explains the necessity of those four powers. The truths waiting within are not pleasant or comforting. They possess disturbing intensity. Therefore ordinary speech is insufficient; the voice itself must acquire the leap and fire of a flame. Expression becomes an ethical responsibility rather than an artistic luxury. ________________________________________ Third Couplet – The Creative Mind Imagination is portrayed as a traveller wandering through the desert of uncertainty. Rather than claiming certainty, the poet embraces doubt as the natural landscape of creation. He searches for the atmosphere in which ideas may finally descend like rain. ________________________________________ Fourth Couplet – Expanding the Horizon The search expands from personal imagination to the architecture of existence itself. The poet looks beyond the visible universe in search of the hidden Artist whose creative act gave birth to time, space and existence. The journey acquires metaphysical scale. After traversing the universe, the journey returns to the self. Self-discovery becomes the true destination. The footprints already exist; the traveler merely struggles to recognize his own forgotten path. This is one of the philosophical pivots of the ghazal. ________________________________________ Sixth to Eighth Couplets – Diagnosis Before Complaint The search now changes into investigation. اس بار نشانے پہ نشیمن ہے ... seeks the hidden source of destruction. کس آگ نے برباد کیا... refuses to lament before identifying the true cause. درمانِ زبوں حال ... advances further by searching not merely for a cure but for the very source of loss. The poet behaves less like a victim than an investigator. Grief is transformed into forensic inquiry. ________________________________________ Ninth & Tenth Couplets – Self-Critique لٹ تو گیا لوگو ... exposes the irony of searching for at the wrong place after being robbed. .. reveals the tragic simplicity of seeking safety from the very hunter. Here the poet turns the search upon his own weaknesses. The greatest dangers arise not only from external forces but from misplaced trust and innocent self-deception. ________________________________________ Eleventh Couplet – Suspicion of Motives Experience has matured innocence into discernment. The poet no longer rejects kindness, but he refuses to accept appearances without examining hidden motives. Psychological insight replaces naïve optimism. ________________________________________ Maqta – The Endless Burden The closing reveals that the search itself has become the seeker's nature. Rather than escaping difficulty, he instinctively gravitates toward greater intellectual and existential burdens. The journey therefore remains unfinished. The search continues. Overall Conceptual Architecture The ghazal follows a remarkably coherent progression: Preparation → Expression → Imagination → Cosmic Exploration → Self-Discovery → Investigation → Self-Critique → Psychological Insight → Acceptance of Endless Quest. Each section expands naturally from the previous one while preserving the recurring movement of "search."
