A ceremony was held in the garden of the Mardin Forest Nursery Directorate for the distribution of 50 water tankers equipped with pumps, procured by the Governorship and the Metropolitan Municipality. Governor and Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Tuncay Akkoyun, in his speech at the ceremony, stated that the city, with its vast and fertile lands, is one of the largest agricultural areas in the region. Akkoyun emphasized that agriculture and animal husbandry have been practiced in these fertile lands for centuries, and that protecting the geography through agricultural activities is of great importance. He also drew attention to the negligence that occurred in the past, particularly due to human actions. Akkoyun emphasized that fires, which threaten nature and livelihoods, can sometimes lead to severe consequences, and stated: "While we continue our agricultural activities in the most efficient way, we also need to protect these lands. All our institutions are putting in a great deal of effort. We especially want our citizens and farmers to be sensitive to protecting nature. In this regard, to facilitate the initial intervention before our fire department and forest administration arrive, we will distribute 50 tractor-mounted water tankers to 10 districts. These water tankers have a capacity of approximately 3 tons of water. They enable the initial intervention before our fire department and forest administration arrive, that is, before our teams reach the area. They provide a very important opportunity to prevent the spread of the fire. We believe that water tankers will provide significant benefits in strengthening our capacity in fighting fires." Akkoyun explained that the water tankers were distributed based on the fire risk map and that more water tankers would be procured and made available to citizens as needed. Akkoyun stated that they delivered 45 backpack-type fire extinguishers to the teams, 30 last year and 15 this year, emphasizing that this greatly facilitates the work of the forestry department's heroes in the field in the fight against fires. He also noted that they acquired 8 new fire trucks for the fire department last year, underlining that they have strengthened their infrastructure against forest and residential area fires. Drawing attention to the fact that dry grass and stubble fires can cause major disasters, especially in the summer months due to increasing temperatures, Akkoyun said: "Therefore, we all need to be very careful and responsible. I especially want to appeal to our farmers and all our citizens. Please do not burn stubble, let's protect our agricultural lands. Sometimes a spark in a field can cause very large fires. When we look at the causes of the fires that occurred in several of our districts the day before yesterday and yesterday, a large part of them are unfortunately stubble fires. These fires unfortunately cause damage to our nature and the destruction of the lives of the living creatures there." Following the speech, Governor Akkoyun and the guests distributed the water tankers. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor İbrahim Engin Şenay, Mardin Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary Kemalettin Sakin, Şanlıurfa Forest Regional Directorate Deputy Director Yunus Kurtgöz, Forest Management Director Siyamet Kaya, relevant institution heads, and village headmen.
