72. ¿Por qué Jesucristo tuvo que morir así? (Programación Especial)
Journalist José Máyer Trujillo was the announcer of Holy Week in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 2024. On March 20, in the Church of Our Lady of the Conception in that city of Tenerife, he reflected on the meaning of Jesus' death on the cross and how His suffering helps us bear our own despite the pain. In this episode of "Theology for Ordinary People," Dr. Andrés Brito gives the spotlight to his good friend to help us prepare for Holy Week. Are you interested in this topic? His face was so marred that he hardly resembled a human being, and his appearance was not even human. And he will alarm many nations; Kings will be speechless before him. They will see what they had not been told; they will understand what they had not heard.[c] 53 Who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his mighty arm? My servant grew up in the presence of the Lord like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic in his appearance, nothing to draw us to him. He was despised and rejected: a man of sorrows, acquainted with the deepest pain. We turned our backs on him and averted our gaze; he was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down.[d] And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our sins. He was struck so that we might be at peace; He was whipped so that we could be healed. We have all strayed like sheep; we have left God's ways to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid upon him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated cruelly; yet he did not say a single word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And like a sheep silent before its shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was taken away. No one cared that he died childless, nor that his life was cut off midway. But they struck him dead because of my people's rebellion. He had done nothing wrong, and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was placed in a rich man's tomb. It was part of the Lord's good plan to crush him and cause him pain. However, when his life is offered as a sin offering, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and in his hands the Lord's good plan will prosper. When he sees all that was accomplished through his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of what he suffered, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted among the righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will honor him with the honor of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was numbered with the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for the transgressors.
