CHERRY CHEEKS - "CCLPII" (2023, full album)

I'm really in love with the art for the new album from Portland's most cheeky cherry, because I don't know if it's made with that intention, but it's a true reflection of all the good things you're going to find in this 12", probably one of the most instant and addictive first listens I've faced in a very long time. Wild, spicy, crunchy, energizing, fun, always amazing, and packed with synthetic hooks and concise expeditious riffs that make it absolutely irresistible, ready to get your money out even at gunpoint, like that punkish cherry on its cover... In short, everything that made CHERRY CHEEKS one of our favorite projects so far this decade, since our now hero Kyle Harms created it during the pandemic when he was still living in Orlando, but at his best, muscled up, even catchier, as a full band, always surprising, and with the guarantee seal of being a 100% Total Punk release... Now a full band based out of Portland, OR with a few successful tours under their belt and a strongly defined sound CCLPII picks up where last year's CHERRY RADIO EP left off. The songs are more fleshed out, the production crisper, and the hooks are gigantic with layers of synths and electronic bleeps and blurps peppered throughout. The manic energy is still front and center but the poppier elements hinted at with songs like 'Go Outside' and'Two Bugs' on their debut are given much greater focus on the album's hit heavy A-side. On the flip the album takes a darker and more sinister turn. The synths are more heavily featured the vocals have more bite and the punk muscle fully flexed. Cherry Cheeks prove they've got some staying power and I'm excited to see what they have in store for CCLPIII.
