God of War: Laufey Gets DESTROYED! Sony CRASHES OUT!

God of War Laufey is getting destroyed online, whether that’s YouTube, Twitter and or Reddit. But it also has some fans... so It's divisiveness is certainly something worth talking about. The most prominent negative voice came from an unlikely source: the man who started it all. God of War creator David Jaffe livestreamed his reaction to the State of Play reveal and came away deeply unimpressed, calling the game bland and predicting it would underperform commercially. During the stream, Jaffe said he found the game "so uninspired" and "so dull," and went as far as declaring "it's dead" and that the title would not meet commercial expectations. His core complaint was one of identity: he argued that God of War has progressively lost what made it distinctive, from the gore and violence of the originals, to a recognisable Kratos, and now to its grounding in identifiable mythology, with Laufey feeling more like a fantasy title than a God of War game. He compared the game unfavourably to Forspoken and took particular issue with what he described as Disney-like character design. On social media and among streamers, the reaction was more mixed but still carried notable criticism. Twitch and Kick personality xQc acknowledged the game "started off rough," and while he ultimately came around to viewing it as a solid product, he noted it was "less appealing for men" given the shift to a female protagonist in Faye. On Twitter/X, Jaffe's comments were widely shared and amplified, with accounts noting his blunt assessment and suggesting he deserved credit for being willing to say it publicly. The broader online discourse centred on the absence of Kratos, the departure from the established Norse and Greek mythological framework fans expected, and the feeling that the franchise was moving further away from its roots rather than building on them.
