What should you pay attention to as a beginner editor?! In this video, we give you 5 tips to take your editing to the next level. - Transitions. Many people suddenly use a fade, but notice how often it's used in videos you really like. Actually, never. What happens: people edit and suddenly think the moment you go from one shot to the next: Ouch! What a strange transition! The solution is NOT to use a fade (it makes the transition softer, but doesn't make your video any more professional). But to make sure your cut is accurate. Maybe you cut in the middle of something and it looks strange. Or maybe the shots just don't line up. Experiment with that, perhaps by moving the transition a bit later or earlier in the shot. Does it work then? 2) Wide shot after wide shot, or lots of close-ups in a row without a clear idea. You can certainly shoot a series of close-ups in succession to build suspense, but if you only shoot close-ups one after the other, you basically have no idea where you are. Shooting wide shots one after the other is also boring. So make sure you have variety! Practice in the edit and then gradually start shooting that way more often. If two shots are very similar, why put them together? 3) Text you place over your video. Really look beyond the standard text in, for example, iMovie, because no matter how beautifully you edit with a super clunky font, it just looks very amateurish, and that's a real shame. Besides, is it really necessary to put text on the screen? Often, it's much better to explain it in a different way. 4) Creating slow motion where it's not possible. If you haven't shot at the right frame rate, you can put something in slow motion, but it won't look good! 5) Music too loud, resulting in unintelligible text. What a shame! Adjust the level and listen carefully. Music shouldn't be annoying, but it shouldn't be cut out either. So I think it's in a good spot here.
