Located in the northwestern part of North America and occupying about one-fifth of the U.S. territory, Alaska is a vast land where magnificent snow-capped mountain ranges and expansive oceans unfold. The true master of this place is nature itself. As part of this wondrous natural world, the people of Alaska understand the cycle of nature and write a story of coexistence with other wildlife. The glaciers that mark the beginning of this journey. The mystery of glaciers, created over eons, can be found in Seward. Seward, located about 200km south of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, is an ice-free port that has established itself as a shipping hub since the early days of settlement. On the way to see the Ayalik Glacier, crossing the sea of mysterious colors created by glaciers, some surprising guests await! Homer, the southernmost point of the land in southwestern Alaska, is nicknamed the "End of the Road." It is also known as a fishing paradise, thanks to the Homer Spit, which stretches 7.5km toward Kechemak Bay. A spit is a long sandy landform extending from land into the sea, and due to this unique topography, anyone can fish in Homer without a boat—provided they are ready to cast their line and battle salmon over a meter long. People aren't the only ones seeking salmon. There is something that flocks to find the dead salmon that have returned to the sea after spawning: the world's largest halibut! Halibut is a delicacy enjoyed during holidays, and it is a massive fish that can weigh up to 230 kg and exceed 200 cm in length. Fishermen lower heavy sinkers to a depth of 14 meters and wait for a bite. The fishing rod bends! A seasoned fisherman quickly reels in the line. The fisherman is gradually gaining the upper hand... Will he be able to catch it? Leaving Homer and traveling northeast along the coastline, you encounter the Kenai River. Originating from Lake Kenai and stretching a staggering 132 km, this river is a world of all kinds of salmon. Salmon migrate between rivers and the sea, helping the ecosystem cycle; after spawning and dying, their carcasses become nutrients for forests and wildlife. For Alaskans, salmon fishing is both a daily routine and a cultural tradition. Chasing upstream salmon, they catch king salmon in the ocean and sockeye and coho salmon in the river. The sight of people standing guard at the path of returning salmon with large nets to catch them is a magnificent spectacle. Salmon is an important food source that helps people endure the harsh winter, and there are various methods for preserving it. We meet the people of Alaska who live by chasing salmon swimming upstream from the vibrant ocean to the rivers. ▶ EBS Documentary Post : https://egloos.com/ebsyoutube?utm=you... ✔ Program Title : Humans and the Sea - Chasing Upstream Salmon: People of Alaska ✔ Broadcast Date : 2023.11.20 #GolaDuneDocumentaryOnTV #GolaDuneDocumentary #Documentary #Documentary
