Driving in Germany and the Netherlands: Autobahn A59 & A40 E34, A67 from Duisburg to Venlo

In this video you can ride along on Autobahnen A59 & A40 E34 and Rijksweg A67 (E34) from Duisburg in Germany to Venlo in the Netherlands. There are quite a few highway border crossings between both countries in this area and I have featured most of them on the channel already. This one was missing however. The A40 Ruhrautobahn is an urban Autobahn connecting some of the bigger cities in the Ruhrgebiet (large urban and industrial area named after the Ruhr river). It stretches from Dortmund in the East to the border with the Netherlands in the West. If you are interested in seeing the segment Dortmund - Duisburg, you can check it out here:    • Driving in Germany: Autobahn A40 from Dort...   Duisburg is a large industrial city with over 500.000 inhabitants and known for having one of the largest river ports on the European continent. This international corridor for the Netherlands is therefore especially busy with truck traffic. The A67 in the Netherlands is known for its large share in truck traffic. By extension via the A58 and A16 highways it passes the largest cities in the Noord-Brabant province and ultimately leads to Rotterdam, the largest seaport in Europe. The border city Venlo also has many distribution centers that further push the share of truck traffic in the area. What was especially challenging in recent years was the closure of Rheinbrücke Neuenkamp at Duisburg for heavy truck traffic due to extensive wear of the bridge. This is unfortunately a massive problem across Germany but at least here the bridge remained open with reduced capacity for light traffic only. A few months ago the first span of the new bridge opened to traffic so the span that we are driving across in this video is now in the process of being demolished and ultimately replaced as well.
