Central Auditory Processing Disorders

Central auditory processing disorders (CAPD) are complex and without any known cause. A 2016 Emerging Research Grants (ERG) recipient generously funded by Royal Arch Research Assistance, Elizabeth McCullagh, Ph.D., describes her work on auditory difficulties in Fragile X syndrome, the most common monogenic form of autism spectrum disorders, as well as give an overview on CAPD and what is currently known in the field. McCullagh is an assistant professor in the department of integrative biology at Oklahoma State University. The Hearing Health Foundation research webinar series is moderated by Anil K. Lalwani, M.D., a member of HHF's Board of Directors and the head of HHF's Council of Scientific Trustees, which oversees the ERG program. He is a professor and the vice chair for research in the division of otology, neurology, and skull base surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and a codirector at the Columbia Cochlear Implant Program. #autism #fragilex #auditory #audiology #research
