Visit our social links below for more 👋🏼 ✅ Overview Lumbar plexus is a nerve bundle that supplies the skin and muscles of the lower limb of our body. Important to know is that the lumbar nerve roots (L1-L5) exit beneath the corresponding vertebral pedicle and then leave through the intervertebral foramina of the vertebral column. For example: L4 nerve root exits beneath the L4 pedicle through the L4/L5 foramen. Lumbar plexus is located in the lumbar region within the psoas major muscle muscle. This bundle of nerves are found anterior to the lumbar vertebrae from L1-L5. High yield: All the branches off the lumbar plexus emerge lateral to the Psoas major muscle except: Genitofemoral nerve (emerges anteriorly) & Obturator nerve (emerges medially). Now specifically the lumbar plexus is formed by the anterior rami of the lumbar spinal nerves L1, L2, L3, & L4. There is also a special contribution from the 12th thoracic spinal nerve. Spinal root L5 is labeled as well but does not form the plexus. ✅ Branches & Mnemonic Mnemonic: I (twice) Get Laid on Fridays Use this Key for nerve roots 2 from 1 2 from 2 2 from 3 I (twice): I comes twice for: Iliohypogastric nerve Ilioinguinal nerve Key 2 from 1 which means two nerves come from one root value [L1] Get Laid: Genitofemoral nerve [L1, L2] Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve [L2, L3] Key 2 from 2 which means two nerves from two root values each. On Fridays: Obturator nerve [L2, L3, L4] Femoral nerve [L2, L3, L4] Key 2 from 3 which means two nerves again but from three root values each. _______________________________ Timestamps 0:00 - What will we learn? 0:27 - Anterior view labeling 1:19 - Psoas major muscle (emerging branches) 2:25 - Mnemonic & Trick for the branches 5:00 - Recap & Review 6:15 - Bonus branches 6:42 - Follow on IG & Subscribe! _______________________________ 💜 Share - Comment - & Like!
