Yes, from famous martial artists, Hollywood actors, and even wrestling icons, the list of real-world people who, in one way or another, have found their way into a fighting game is longer than you realized! So, these are 6 Fighting Game CHARACTERS "inspired" by real-world people! Homage? Coincidence? Or a clear copyright violation? Well, believe it or not, it's usually a combination of ALL of these things! So stay here and enjoy the amazing discovery with me, okay? But, since you're here, and if you're as passionate about the world of fighting games as I am, don't forget to subscribe to the channel, like the video, and activate the notification bell so you don't miss any updates. That, that will help me A LOT! Let's start with the most famous Grappler in fighting games, Russia's 'Red Cyclone,' Zangief from Street Fighter! Yes, if you've ever been caught in his Spinning Piledriver, you already know the true meaning of pain and despair... Zangief is a muscular monument to the strength of Mother Russia, and his inspiration is just as powerful. And although many people in the West don't know it, his design and personality are undeniably influenced by the legendary Soviet professional wrestler, Viktor Zangiev. In fact, when Capcom was making SF2, this character had the working name 'Vodka Gobalsky,' which was later changed to 'Zangief' in honor of this real-life strongman. Yes, it's not ZangieV with a V, it's ZangieF with an F. I mean, they wanted the homage to not be SO obvious, hehe! In fact, like Capcom's Zangief, Viktor Zangiev was an accomplished amateur freestyle wrestler for the Soviet Union in the 1980s before venturing into professional wrestling in Japan. His powerful, no-nonsense style and imposing physique made him a superstar, capturing the imagination of Street Fighter developers. Capcom's designers, trying to imitate Zangiev's moves, created a stocky, slow character with INCREDIBLY powerful grapples. They almost inadvertently created the archetype of grapplers in fighting games, an archetype I explain in-depth in THIS video right here! In fact, if we consider that many, MANY of the grapplers that emerged in subsequent fighting games were inspired by Zangief, we could say that Victor Zangiev, being the inspiration for the Red Tornado, is the Father of ALL Grapplers in fighting games! So when Zangief flexes his muscles and roars like a bear, you're not just seeing a video game character; you're seeing an echo of a real-life athlete who embodied the strength and pride of an entire nation! Yes, a subtle wink for some, but a loud shout the size of a bear's roar for others!
