Why Ozzy's Icon Status Doesn't Make Him The Better Singer
Nobody is saying Ozzy Osbourne isn't important. Nobody is saying the first six Black Sabbath albums aren't the foundation of everything heavy metal. Nobody is saying Crazy Train isn't one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever recorded. The argument is more specific than that. Ronnie James Dio โ with Rainbow, with Black Sabbath, and as a solo artist โ was a more complete musician than Ozzy Osbourne. And complete musician is not the same thing as iconic presence. Because Ozzy is one of the most iconic presences in the history of heavy music. That's not in dispute. The dispute is whether iconic presence is the same as musical greatness. It isn't. Dio gave us better music. Ozzy gave us a better story. In rock and roll, those are not always the same thing. But in this case, they are definitely not the same thing. Come at me in the comments. ๐ When Heavy Became Mass โ Heavy Music 1970 to 2000 โ available now: Amazon: https://bit.ly/3OrVzjP Barnes & Noble: https://bit.ly/4oUlG0p 00:00:00 โ Hear The Argument Before You Start Typing 0:00:50 โ Complete Musician vs. Iconic Presence 0:02:00 โ What Ozzy Actually Did In Black Sabbath 0:03:04 โ What Dio Did When He Replaced Him 00:04:10 โ Heaven and Hell Is Not Worse Than Ozzy-Era Sabbath 0:05:24 โ Holy Diver vs. Blizzard of Oz: The Comparison That Settles It 00:06:35 โ The Counter-Argument: Ozzy's Real Ammunition 00:07:34 โ Cultural Visibility Is Not Musical Greatness 00:08:32 โ The Verdict: Better Music vs. Better Story ๐ฅ Support the channel: ย ย /ย headbangershistoryย ย Every riff tells a story. ๐บ WEEKLY SCHEDULE: HEAVY HISTORY: THE YEAR WAS ___ (Mondays) โ Era-driven breakdowns of the years that changed heavy music forever.
