Chirípieruana. Dance of the Machete Men. Moxos Province, Beni Department - Bolivian Amazon This dance is part of the Ichapekene Piesta, the festival of San Ignacio de Moxos, which is the most important religious and cultural event in the Beni Department and even in the entire Bolivian Amazon. In 1975, following the First Folkloric Festival of Beni, the Ignatian dances received the title of “Folkloric Capital of Beni.” In 1997, San Ignacio was declared the “Spiritual Capital of the Former Missions of the Southern Cone of America.” In 2011, through Law No. 172, of September 20, the Festival of San Ignacio de Moxos was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. And in 2012, under the name "Ichapekene Piesta, the Main Festival of San Ignacio de Moxos," it was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
