Open Space: Q Da Fool | Mass Appeal

Since Q Da Fool's release from jail earlier this year, he's been releasing songs and videos that match his street aesthetic-not to be mistaken for just an aesthetic. In today's edition of Open Space, the DMV rapper details his past run-ins with the law, going as far back as age 15, when he caught an attempted murder charge. It was then that he converted to Islam, encouraged by the staff at the juvenile detention center where he was being held. Though still practicing Islam, Q has been in and out of jail in recent years. He admits he's not the perfect Muslim, but says he is making an effort to better himself, having limited the number of people around him and quitting some drugs. "I don't pop xans no more," he says."I don't be smoking wild combinations and shit. I be chillin'. I still get high ass shit tho, I still be fucked up." In the course of our interview Q Da Fool offers the unpopular opinion that jail can be good for some. During his recent stint, he points out he was held in solitary most of the time and used that time to focus on his music career. Now a buzzing artist with tracks like "Tell" racking up YouTube views, Q says he wants to collaborate with artists of the same cloth, naming YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Slim Thug, Bun B, & Kodak Black as the official line-up he'd be down to work with.
