35. Stability Improvement of Slope Using Anti-Slide Piles in PLAXIS 2D

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐗𝐈𝐒 𝟐𝐃 In this tutorial, the stability improvement of a slope using anti-slide piles in PLAXIS 2D was demonstrated. The concept of anti-slide piles and their role in resisting lateral soil movement and enhancing slope stability were explained. It was shown how these piles act as retaining members that transfer sliding forces to deeper, more stable layers. The step-by-step modelling procedure in PLAXIS 2D was presented using the Embedded Beam Row element to simulate pile–soil interaction. The mechanism of embedded piles, including the use of skin and foot interfaces, was discussed in detail. Finally, it was illustrated that reinforcing the slope with anti-slide piles significantly increases the global factor of safety of the slope.
