Westmead Metro Station Update | Sydney Metro West Project | Oct 21 to Jan 22

This is the first in my new series of Sydney Metro West videos. It covers the construction site for the new Westmead Sydney Metro Station. The Westmead Metro Station construction site is huge! A significant number of residential and commercial properties along Alexandra Avenue, Hassall Street, Bailey Street and Hawkesbury Road are in the process of being demolished to make way for this new station. Luckily, I captured all of these buildings on film before they disappeared for good! In this video, I cover the demolition process with footage from October 2021, and early and late January 2022. I'll also explain the realignment of Alexandra Avenue away from the station, so that the new Westmead Metro Station box can take it's place. I'll also reveal the likely location of the Westmead Metro Station entrance on Hawkesbury Road and discuss what might change at the existing Sydney Trains Westmead station to accommodate the interchange with Sydney Metro. ** Timestamps ** 00:00 Introduction and Overview 01:49 Alexandra Road Demolition 03:35 Hassall Street Demolition 05:15 Bailey Street Demolition 08:07 Hawkesbury Road Buildings Still Standing 09:36 Closure of Alexandra Avenue 11:05 Tunnel Boring Machine Plan 11:33 New Alignment for Alexandra Avenue 12:23 Location of Westmead Metro Station Entrance 13:37 Modifications to the existing Sydney Trains Westmead Station ** Mentioned in This Video ** The lives of people that lived here - https://www.fmlegal.com.au/westmead-c... and https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/w... ** Attribution ** Open Streetmap - Map Data © OpenStreetMap contributors: https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright Artist Impression Image of Westmead Metro Station - https://www.sydneymetro.info/sites/de... ** Research Documents ** Information for this video came from the following sources. I always follow the government COVID-19 advice and requirements that applied on the day of filming. This is why you sometimes see me wearing a mask and at other times you don't. If you're watching this video during a Sydney lockdown, then please note that it was filmed at a time prior to these restrictions coming into effect. Accuracy I do my best to make the commentary in these videos as accurate as possible by checking facts on the internet and other sources. However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made. Also note that for older videos, things may change over time, causing some of the information to become out of date. Construction Sites, Maintenance Facilities and other Private Property All footage of construction sites, maintenance facilities and other private property is taken from a public vantage point. The only exception is if it's an open day or I have special permission to access the site. The iPhone's small lens and zoom function makes it easier to film through small gaps in hoardings or fencing, so it may look like I'm on site when I'm not! If you would like to know the exact filming location, then ask me in the comments. To get in touch: Email - [email protected] Twitter DM - twitter.com/transportvlog
