Conmemoraciones - Benito Juárez, un legado que perdura (17/07/2022)

Benito Juárez, born in San Pablo Guelatao, Oaxaca, became a lawyer, politician, governor of his state, president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, and president of the republic. During his presidency, he was forced—on two occasions—to lead a traveling presidency, as he had to leave Mexico City and govern from different states to keep the struggle and resistance alive. First, he fought for the Liberal Republic against the conservatives; and later, he fought for the Republic against the French-imposed empire of Maximilian. "They will own nothing more than the ground they tread; the more territory they dominate, the weaker they will be." This was the premise of his itinerant government. Juárez continued the fight until he regained his position in the National Palace and led the full restoration of the Republic. He defended the Federal Constitution of 1857 and its principles, which is why he is considered by many to be the founder of the modern, secular, democratic, and sovereign state. Benito Juárez embodies, like no other figure in our history, respect for the law, respect for institutions, and respect for principles. His unwavering stance consolidated national sovereignty against foreign powers. According to historian Felipe Ávila, “Juárez represents national sovereignty, independence, and dignity, and a heroic struggle to maintain and realize these principles, even in the most difficult times. Because indeed, Juárez lived through difficult times, as did Mexico in general during those years, but with Benito Juárez at the head of this extraordinary effort by thousands of Mexican women and men, our country managed to preserve itself as a nation and as a project.” Follow us on:   / canaloncetv     / canaloncetv     / canaloncetv   https://canalonce.mx/
