Del MAR a la MONTAÑA, 350 KMS!!! La Vuelta a CANTABRIA

I've heard my friend Pillu Machine tell me more than once that he makes videos for his YouTube channel with the intention of having a memory of his cycling adventures so he can relive them when he's in a nursing home. Well, I think if that moment ever comes, this video you're about to watch will undoubtedly be one of my favorites. The story of how I came up with the idea of riding practically all of Cantabria, from the coast to the highest paved point in the region, is a very interesting one. I've always loved climbing up to Fuente del Chivo; the first time I was there, I went on a motorcycle with some friends almost 40 years ago! I've also been there several times to explore the mountains in the area, and I've even slept in my van up there a couple of times while taking nighttime photos of the fabulous views of the Picos de Europa, Peña Sagra, and the Polaciones Valley. I've also cycled up there several times, usually parking the van in the Cabezón de la Sal area and starting the route by climbing the Palombera pass. Well, about six or seven years ago, I arrived there, and some mountaineers started applauding me, appreciating the effort it takes to make the climb by bike and reach practically 2,000 meters above sea level. One of them, seeing that I was wearing a jersey from La Vueltuca, a cycling group we have in Liendo, asked me, "Didn't you come by bike from Liendo?" To which I replied no, that it was impossible... I hadn't even finished saying that word when my mind began to wonder, and so it went until July 15, 2023, the day I finally managed to materialize this route that had been in my head for so long. To Txelu and Iván, I'd like to say that this magnificent day of cycling will not be easily forgotten. Everything we experienced together was fantastic. Thank you, friends. Also, thanks to https://www.altimetrias.net for the altimetry of the mountain passes that I was allowed to use in this video.
