A HISTÓRIA DE "HENÁGIO" O ETERNO CRAQUE CORAL, DE SERGIPE PARA O MUNDO.(2)
THE STORY OF "HENÁGIO," THE ETERNAL CORAL STAR, FROM SERGIPE TO THE WORLD. Henágio Figueiredo dos Santos was born in Aracaju on December 10, 1961. He played sports from an early age, was a renowned sprinter, and collected medals in the 4x100m relay in school competitions in the capital of Sergipe. In his spare time, he played soccer, as he also had skill and truly enjoyed it. His family was against it, and little did they know that at sixteen, he had abandoned athletics and began training with the youth team of Club Sportivo Sergipe, after receiving an invitation from coach Geraldo Oliveira. Sergipe (1983) His relatives only discovered that the boy had become a player when they heard the praise some neighbors from the Colorado team heaped upon him when he excelled in the preliminaries of Gipão's main squad matches. By this time, Jacozinho had transferred from Vasco-SE to "Mais Querido." The left winger then began inviting Henágio to participate in friendly matches and tournaments with Sport Club Gararu, on the banks of the São Francisco River. Henágio soon rose to the professional ranks with his dribbling and elegance, winning titles and more accolades. He was named the best player of the 1982 Sergipe State Championship and performed well in the 1983 Taça de Ouro, a competition that set a record attendance for Batistão, when more than 35,000 fans packed the state stadium to watch the 0-0 draw with São Paulo FC. Sergipe Saga After being approached by several clubs, the young talent was signed by Santa Cruz – a club with a long tradition and success among its fellow countrymen. Mirobaldo, Zé Carlos Olímpico, Nunes, and Joãozinho—to complete a great team that boasted Luís Neto's saves, Ricardo Rocha's youth, Zé do Carmo's leadership, Peu and Django's goals, and the lucky talisman Gabriel, who became Pernambuco Super Champion. 1983 Super Champion However, his bohemian lifestyle was beginning to make its way to the fans, and Henágio wasn't training with enthusiasm. He was under greater pressure, but he continued to excel in games. Even so, Santa Cruz lost the Pernambuco Championship final to Náutico, and the board questioned his nightlife. Amid preparations for the 1985 Brasileirão, Santa Cruz was scheduled to play a friendly against Central de Caruaru, and Henágio refused to take the field in protest of his transfer being denied. He claimed he no longer had the right mindset to play for the club. Fans' patience ran out after the 7-0 thrashing suffered by Flamengo at Marcanã Stadium. The walls of Arruda Stadium were graffitied, and Henágio faced a series of off-field problems: he lost two children (one at three months old and the other while still pregnant), bought a stolen car, and was robbed. A Santa Cruz counselor took him to an Umbanda center to "let off steam" on the star player. The result: Henágio received a nine from Placar magazine, scoring the winning and equalizing goals against Santos and Vasco da Gama, respectively. Despite the comeback, Santa Cruz failed to qualify for the second round after losing 4-3 to Náutico again in the "Clássico das Emoções." Therefore, the board scrambled for qualified players to end the red-and-white dominance, which had been reigning thanks to Baiano's goals. When they sold Ricardo Rocha to Guarani, the money was used to acquire the most talked-about player in the Northeast at the time: Jacozinho. Henágio would once again replace his old friend, but he shocked all of Pernambuco by transferring to archrival Sport...
