On Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Graha Saba Building, Sumber, Solo, the Jokowi and Iriana families held a thanksgiving ceremony for the daughter of Kaesang and Erina Gudono, Tedhak Siten. Vice President Gibran and Selvi were present, along with Jan Ethes and Lembah Manah. Kahiyang Ayu, Sedah Mirah, Nahyan, and Al Saud were also in attendance. Tedhak Siten is a traditional Javanese ceremony. Tedhak Siten, or the "land descent" ceremony, is a reminder to humans of the importance of the meaning of life on earth, which is the relationship between humans and God, with other humans, and with the surrounding natural environment. This means that the Tedhak Siten ceremony embodies the parents' hopes for their children, that they will grow up to be useful to their families, their homeland, and their nation. These parental hopes are manifested in a ceremony held during childhood called the Tedhak Siten ceremony. Tedak Siten comes from two Javanese words: "tedhak," meaning "to set foot," and "siten" (derived from the word "siti") meaning "earth" or "soil." This ceremony is performed when a baby is seven eights (one eight equals 35 days / 7 x 35 days or 245 days), which is when the baby begins to learn to sit and walk on the ground. For the ancestors, this cultural custom is performed as a tribute to the earth, where the child first learns to set foot. Hence, in Javanese, it is called Tedhak Siten. The Tedhak Siten ceremony is always accompanied by prayers from parents and elders, expressing the hope that the child will be successful in life. The implicit symbolism of the Tedhak Siten ceremony reveals the baby's future. The purpose of the Tedhak Siten ceremony is to ensure that the child, when they reach adulthood, will be strong and able to stand alone in the challenges they must face to achieve their dreams. Furthermore, this ceremony is an expression of gratitude, as at this age the child begins to become familiar with the natural world around them and begins to learn to walk. Another purpose of this ceremony is to introduce the child to Mother Earth. In Javanese society, there is a saying "Ibu Pertiwi Bapa Angkasa," meaning the earth as mother and the sky as father. As with Javanese society in general, before undertaking any activity, the child always begins with a "slametan" or thanksgiving ritual. The "slametan" is a traditional ritual that is still preserved by most Javanese people. This Javanese traditional ceremony is performed as a form of gratitude for the gifts and blessings bestowed by God.
