Discovering Bishopsbourne | A Kentish Village With A Surprising Past
In this episode of my Discovering Kent’s Hidden Villages series, I explore the beautifully tucked-away village of Bishopsbourne, set in the heart of the Nailbourne Valley. With my trusty Nikon D3200 DSLR, I set out to photograph this quiet corner of South East Kent, while peeling back the historical layers beneath its peaceful surface. 📍 Along the way, I visit St Mary's Church, where Richard Hooker, a major figure in Anglican theology, once preached. I talk about its architecture, with touches by Sir George Gilbert Scott, and wander through the village’s scenic lanes where literary giants like Joseph Conrad and Jocelyn Brooke once lived. 📸 I also hunt down the site of the old Bishopsbourne railway station, once part of the Elham Valley Railway (1887–1947). Though now a private home, it still holds the charm of a time gone by. And nearby, the stately Bourne Park House holds echoes of Mozart's visit, cricketing legacies, and aristocratic architecture. As always, my challenge is to work with a single camera and see how much variety and visual storytelling I can capture. I want to inspire others with entry-level gear to get out and explore – you don’t need the best kit to make beautiful images! ➡️ If you're enjoying this series, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe — and if you’re a photographer too, share your take on your favourite village using #tudorssubjectchallenge on Instagram. 🧭 Filmed with: Nikon D3200 🎵 Music: [Insert music credits if applicable] 📷 Instagram: @tudor_smith_photography Other Videos in the Series You Might Like: 🎞 Discovering Chilham – A Timeless Kentish Village: • Discovering Kent's Hidden Villages | Phot... 🎞 Exploring Wickhambreaux | A Kentish Village Photography Walk with the Nikon D320: • Exploring Wickhambreaux | A Kentish Villag... 🎞 Exploring Fordwich – Britain’s Smallest Town: • Photographing Fordwich, Kent | England’s S... 📍 Location: Bishopsbourne, Kent, U.K. 🎥 A Tudor Smith Photography Production #bishopsbourne #kentvillages #ukphotography #historyphotography -- Donations (all funding goes towards video creation - I do run 4 channels after all 😉): If you enjoy my content on YouTube and would like to support my work, please do consider buying me a 'coffee' through the link below.
