Polly To The Rescue - Ed’s Moving Surprise To Fan In NZ Hospital

In an emotional and heartfelt moment, Ed Sheeran surprised one of his biggest fans in hospital in Auckland, who missed the opportunity to see him during his New Zealand tour. A couple of months ago we received a message about Stef who's a massive fan of Ed. Stef is currently in hospital in Auckland after undergoing treatment for cancer, which is an ongoing battle for her. Stef was first diagnosed at the age of 14, fighting it off multiple times at ages of 14,17,27 and 31. She's still fighting this battle at 32. Her husband Mike and two daughters Ally 8 and Julianna 6 have been a part of this difficult journey. She has a rare genetic disorder called Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) which predisposes her to growing solid cancerous tumors. After recent chemo efforts a tumor ate away at her hip bone and wrapped around her spine forcing her into a large surgery a month ago today to have a full external hemipelvectomy removing her left leg completely and hipbone. Despite the setbacks including an infection Stef has held onto Ed's music throughout treatment, with "Thinking Out Loud" becoming her "turning song" in her hospital bed. Although we don't know what the immediate or long term future holds for Stef, we wanted to try and make things as easy as possible for her and the family to maximise their time together and take away some of the struggles as part of the Polly To The Rescue segment. The wonderful people at Gilrose Finance donated $5000 for whatever Stef and her family need it for. Whether it be used to cover childcare costs or the cost of Stef’s treatment itself. It’s there thanks to Gilrose Finance. Max Clothing also wanted to help make Stef feel better on the outside and have donated a $1000 clothing voucher whilst the wonderful people at New World have donated a $1000 grocery voucher. Finally The Hits surprised Stef’s friend Mel, who brought Stef’s story to our attention, with tickets to Ed’s Auckland concert.
