In Elazığ, a beggar who was caught by police checking traffic lights and in front of a mosque and declared, "I'm waiting for my neighbor," was caught by a passing woman who offered him money. Despite declining the money, the woman, claiming, "I'm not a beggar," failed to deceive the police and was fined. Elazığ Municipality Police Department teams conducted operations in various parts of the city against 15 beggars. Following complaints, the beggars, who particularly favored areas frequented by people, such as mosques, traffic lights, and other traffic, were apprehended one by one. Some beggars fled upon seeing police vehicles, while others were apprehended after a chase. When a beggar, spotted by undercover police officers in the city, tried to convince them, saying, "I'm not a beggar, I'm waiting for my neighbor." Even a passerby tried to give him money, and the beggar's retort, "I'm not a beggar," failed to save him. Following the inspection, 15 beggars were apprehended by the teams and taken to the Municipal Police Headquarters. The beggars' cash was confiscated, and each was fined under the Law on Violations. Meanwhile, Municipal Police Chief Murat Ayaz stated that 1,900 beggars who exploited citizens' emotions by begging were collected in the past year, and he warned citizens not to pay attention to beggars and asked for their understanding.
