Ahmet Koçak was born in 1966 in Konakpınar village, Gürün district, Sivas, as the second of five children of his father Ali and mother Cevahir. He completed his primary education in Konakpınar village, Gürün, and his secondary education at İbrahim Turan High School in Esenler, Istanbul. He completed his education at Istanbul Sultanahmet Industrial Vocational High School. After working as an industrial worker for two years, Koçak joined the "army of the unemployed" during the 1991 Gulf Crisis. He never had the chance to work in the profession he was trained for again.
