Ice Age Graveyard Discovered Fossil Hunting in Florida

Florida Fossil Hunting Episode 18 | In this episode, we discovered a Treasure Trove of Ice Age Fossils belonging to Mastodons, Giant Ground Sloths, Camels, Llamas, Giant Armadillos, Giant Tortoises etc. It was a literal Ice Age Graveyard. While Florida is known for its Megalodon Shark Teeth, arrowhead hunting, and shark tooth hunting, Fossil Hunters know that it is also one of the best spots in the world to find Ice Age Megafauna. The trip maker though, had to be the fully rooted Mastodon Tooth. Mastodon teeth are so much more rare than the Megalodon teeth we find diving in Miocene aged deposits. For every 100 nice Megs you find, you might be lucky to find one Mastodon tooth. As far as rarity goes, it is like finding a T-Rex tooth or other dinosaur fossil. The tooth we found is almost 6” tall by 3” wide. Weighing 3 lbs. Mastodons are by far my favorite extinct Ice Age fossil to discover in Florida. They were the first species to be recognized as extinct by science and were a driving force of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Through exploring, Fossil hunting, and artifact hunting, we can make a physical connection to the history around us. We are passionate about that connection and want to share it with others. We hope to find beautiful Megalodon teeth, gems and minerals, great white shark teeth, artifacts, arrowheads, and megafauna creatures like mammoths and mastodons. We will also include videos on how to fossil hunt in Florida and explore discussions on some of our favorite topics in paleontology, archaeology, and geology!
