US Military Dog Training: How Ordinary Puppies Become Elite K9 Soldiers

In this video, we break down the full training pipeline that turns an ordinary puppy into one of the most effective weapons in the U.S. military — a certified K9 soldier ready for deployment. It starts at Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland, home of the 341st Training Squadron and the only facility in the DoD that breeds, raises, and certifies military working dogs for every branch of service. Puppies born into the program are handled from birth, tested for curiosity, noise tolerance, and drive before they're even eight weeks old. From there, they move into foster homes for early socialization, then return for months of intense adolescent training designed to push them toward — or wash them out of — the next phase. The dogs that survive enter a 120-day certification course covering explosive detection, patrol work, search operations, and controlled aggression. About half never make it through. The ones that do ship out to bases and battlefields around the world.
