Demonym: Cruz-Machadense Cruz Machado is a city with diverse ethnicities, customs, and cultures, united in a long tradition of simple and honest people who strive for the growth of the municipality, people who make a difference. Its territorial extension is the eighteenth largest in the state of Paraná, full of the most beautiful landscapes. The municipality of Cruz Machado (PR) possesses a large environmental territory. The interior is surrounded by natural beauty, composed of native forests and reservoirs, which characterize one of the main tourist areas of the municipality. History In 1870, the first immigrants of Polish nationality arrived in Paraná, settling in various colonial centers in the southern region of the province. It should be noted, however, that before that, as early as 1853, the first member of the Polish ethnic group, Jeromin Durski, one of the most notable Slavic immigrants that Paraná welcomed, had settled here, coming from Santa Catarina. Later, Polish colonists spread to various points in Paraná, founding or collaborating in the founding of the colonies of Dorizon, Mallet, Paulo Frontin, Cruz Machado, and many other colonial settlements, responsible for the founding of important urban centers. The current municipality of Cruz Machado was, therefore, initially a colonial settlement organized and founded by the Federal Government, with the aim of utilizing, colonizing, and populating large areas of land, hitherto unused, which were admirably suited to various branches of agriculture, the main source of wealth and acculturation of European immigrants. Thus, by government initiative, the Federal Colonial Settlement "Cruz Machado" was founded on December 19, 1910. By Law State Decree No. 1735, of February 22, 1918, elevated the settlement to the category of Judicial District of the Municipality of União da Vitória and, in 1951, by virtue of State Law No. 790 of November 14 of the same year, achieved its autonomy. The municipality's name is a tribute to Dr. Antônio Cândido da Cruz Machado, Senator of the Empire, a native of the city of Serro, in Minas Gerais, who held the noble title of Viscount of Serro and who, in 1854, during the campaign for the independence of the Province of Paraná, which was part of the Province of São Paulo, played a relevant role, siding with the Paraná cause.
