First Time Trying Uglybooks Pocket Sketchbook + Flowers Drawing & Painting

When I was in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, I came across this art supply store, Curio. Gallery. They had a roomy and beautiful space displaying art and selling unique art supplies. Once I saw they had Uglybooks, I knew I had to buy one to try. I had seen many review videos on YouTube and was curious about the quality of the pocket sketchbook paper. I didn't know what to expect because when you look at them on your screen, they look like cheap, colored craft stock paper I would see at Dollar Tree or Office Depot. I thought maybe it was a gimmick. So I left the store with an Uglybook Mystery Pack, 3 darkest graphite pencils I could find, and 3 Koh-I-Noor Progresso Woodless colored pencils. For my first impression, I love the thickness of the paper. The paper can handle a good amount of water without bleeding through to the next page. The paper can warp if you use too much water. The paper is not as smooth as cardstock. It has a slight texture, and it is very pleasant to use with pencils or colored pencils. After drawing and painting on the Uglybooks, I can see the appeal. With colored papers, whatever you put down is going to look better, even when you don't do backgrounds. I don't feel like I start from a "blank" page when it is colored paper.
