Taking Flight in the Desert | Montecito Residence
The Montecito Residence, designed by Olson Kundig Architects, is built with simple, fire-resistant materials like concrete and steel. The residence was crafted to blend into the natural landscape, with oxidized steel and toned concrete. Large roof overhangs shield the house from the sun, while a long central hallway allows fresh ocean breezes to flow through. Signature elements of Tom Kundig, such as pulley systems and industrial locking mechanisms, add functionality and an innovative touch to the design, making it both striking and harmonious with its surroundings.
