Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) which are commonly known as "drones" - have a wide variety of functions. These can range from monitoring climate change to carrying out search operations after natural disasters, photography, recreational purposes, and delivering goods. But their most well-known and controversial use is by the military for reconnaissance, surveillance and targeted attacks. In Africa, the drone industry is thriving and evolving into a massive enterprise - while South Africa is considered the largest drone market on the continent. Sophie Mokoena compiled this report.
