A SERVICE LIKE CHRIST'S Wednesday's lesson invites us to reflect on the true nature of Christian leadership and service. Drawing on 1 Corinthians 4:1-2, Paul teaches that leaders should not be exalted as figures around whom groups or divisions form. Instead, they should be considered servants of Christ and stewards of what God has entrusted to them. Paul connects this principle to having "the mind of Christ." This means learning to think and act like Jesus. The church in Corinth lived in a society where there was much competition for prestige, influence, and recognition. That same spirit had begun to creep into the church, leading some believers to value certain leaders above others. The lesson warns that this danger can also be present in the church today. The great model of service is found in Philippians 2:5-8. Jesus, though in a supreme position, humbled himself, taking the form of a servant and being obedient to death on the cross. Therefore, having the mind of Christ means abandoning the selfish pursuit of recognition and learning to put the needs of others above our own interests. The expression "servants of Christ" reminds us that Christian leadership is not about position, power, or prestige. A true leader serves under the authority of Jesus. Likewise, Paul describes believers as "stewards," because everything we possess—our gifts, talents, resources, and opportunities—ultimately belongs to Christ and has been entrusted to us to serve others.
