This first video mainly captures the atmosphere of the Ueno Green Club exhibition hall, Fukiran sales booths, artistic orchid pots (鉢), and historical Fukiran catalogs (銘鑑). In Japan, Fuuran exhibitions are approached not simply as plant displays, but more as a form of “Art Appreciation (美術品評).” The culture of appreciating: refined beauty (整齊美), the beauty of empty space (余白美), left-right balance, and harmony between the plant and the pot (鉢) was especially impressive. In this video, you can also see many famous Japanese Fukiran cultivars such as: Kenkokuden (建國殿), Kongobo (金剛寶), Hakubotan (白牡丹), Megami (女神), Kongokan (金剛冠), Gin no Suzu (銀の鈴), and Gyokukinkan (玉金冠). I also included historical Fukiran Meikan (富貴蘭銘鑑) catalogs from: 1939, 1940, 1947, 1957, and 1991. The detailed appreciation of the exhibition masterpieces will be covered more deeply in Part 2.
