PLAZA INDEPENDENCIA, MENDOZA Walking Tour - Argentina [4K|60fps]

Plaza Independencia (Independence Square) is an urban space, located in the City of Mendoza, Argentina. It was inaugurated in 1863. It is located in the center of the city between Patricias Mendocinas, Chile, General Espejo and Rivadavia streets. After the earthquake that devastated the old city of Mendoza in 1861, its subsequent reconstruction by Engineer Julio Balloffet, made it a priority to create spaces that would serve as shelter against new earthquakes. Thus, with the new checkerboard layout, it included the creation of five new squares (one central and the others equidistant). In this way the current Plaza Independencia arose. At the beginning of the 1940s, remodeling work began. In 1968, the municipal mini-theater was inaugurated in the basement of the square, during the first administration of Mayor Víctor Fayad; the square was connected to the Paseo Pedestrian Sarmiento and the Municipal Museum of Modern Art was inaugurated and the Julio Quintanilla Theater was remodeled. Later, during the administration of Roberto Iglesias, it was completely remodeled, acquiring its current appearance. The square has an area of more than 55,000 square meters, a fountain of dancing waters with the frieze "Freedom, that anonymous deed". During the weekends, a fair is organized for artisans who sell their products, with stalls in some of its side streets. In addition, street shows are common, so the square is very visited.
