As you know, guppies are livebearers. Caring for the adorable fry, which begin swimming as soon as they are born, is crucial. In addition to natural methods, I'm sharing three important details about caring for guppy fry in your aquarium. The environment in which guppy fry are located is crucial for their survival. Free-roaming fry in the aquarium are at risk of being eaten by other fish. To protect them from this danger, we can place them in a separate mesh nursery box. This mesh nursery box will not only keep them within the aquarium's natural cycle but also protect them from being eaten by other fish. Instead of mesh nurseries, depending on your aquarium size, you can use porous plastic containers or even plastic bottles pierced with a needle. It's crucial to ensure the holes are very small, otherwise the fish may escape. After providing a safe environment for your guppy fry, it's time to feed them. The fry excrete the food they ingest within an average of 30-40 minutes. Their metabolism is very fast. Of course, this doesn't mean they'll be fed constantly. If possible, feeding them at least five times a day, in small amounts, is sufficient. You can also use flake food and offer it in very small pieces. You can also use worms, brine shrimp, and powdered fry food. The important thing here is that the fry, with their very small mouths, can easily digest the food. If your fry are aged for weeks, you can separate them into groups such as first week olds, 3 weeks olds, and 5 weeks olds to prevent stress and provide more appropriate nutrition. After a safe environment and regular feeding, another important detail, cleanliness, is crucial. The filtration and oxygen levels of the fry boxes or similar containers in your aquarium directly affect the fry's development. If you're using an external filter for your fry boxes, you can attach an air hose to the outlet hose of the filter to ensure that some of the clean water flows directly into the fry box. You can also use a waterfall filter in internal filters. Pay attention to the water flow rate, as the fry don't like a lot of current. These methods can also help remove any accumulated fish waste and food waste from the brood box. You can carefully submerge the brood box in water and remove it. This will also remove any protein film that may have formed on it. In short, if you don't have the opportunity to raise your brood fish in a natural environment where they can grow naturally alongside plants (which is where fry loss is likely) or if you can't provide a separate aquarium, these methods are very useful.
