Today my Bali adventure continues – and the day with my Indonesian companion unfolds quite differently than I expected. We start at the lake in Bedugul, sample local powdered drinks from the small shops, and enjoy the view before heading to the Bedugul Botanical Garden. The park can be explored on foot, by bicycle, or by e-scooter – after yesterday's strenuous climb to the waterfall, we opt for the more leisurely route. On the scooter route through the jungle, we see bamboo, hear a muezzin, and I tell him about the nightly calls to prayer at my accommodation. While talking, I briefly veer off course – luckily without any consequences. The garden itself is rather unremarkable, but the ride through the lush green surroundings of Bedugul makes the visit worthwhile. In the evening, she returns to Denpasar, and the next day I continue on to Abiansemal, near Ubud. There, I checked into an €11 hotel that truly surprised me: a quiet location, a garden, a pool – excellent value for money in Bali. A day spent exploring a lake, riding a scooter, venturing into the jungle, and staying in accommodation that was significantly better than one would expect for €11.
