Cuidar da Natureza com as Pessoas é a nossa Missão

Brazil is a cradle of riches that sustain life. Rivers that feed forests. Forests and oceans that regulate the climate. Indigenous and traditional peoples who conserve this territory through time. To protect part of Brazil's natural wealth, the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) was created in 2007. A state institution, present throughout the country, with a clear mission: to care for nature together with the people. Today, almost 350 federal conservation units comprise approximately 10% of the national territory and protect forests, fields, rivers, seas, mangroves, caves, mountains, and the animals and plants that inhabit them, in all Brazilian biomes: Amazon, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Pantanal, and Pampa, in addition to the marine and coastal zone. Learn more about the work of this Institute, which operates in areas such as monitoring, research, visitor support, wildlife and flora conservation, promotion of the bioeconomy, and land management in collaboration with traditional communities, among others. All this to keep nature alive and strengthen one of the most effective strategies for tackling the climate crisis: caring for, creating, and expanding the country's protected areas.
