Hot Chocolate - You'll Always Be A Friend (TOTP 16th November 1972)
The earliest surviving Top of the Pops performance featuring Hot Chocolate. Sadly. their studio appearances for "Love Is Life" (1970), "You Could've Been A Lady", (1971) and "I Believe (In Love)" (1971) were all wiped. This performance, featuring Tony Wilson on lead vocals, with Errol Brown on acoustic guitar, survives as a 16mm black and white telerecording. However, by increasing the colour saturation and adding a colour filter I have managed to restore the majority of the original colour as shown on Episode 453 of Top of the Pops, first broadcast, Thursday, 16th November 1972.
