53EDO on the Lumatone and the new colour scheme
Short improv in C in 53EDO using my Bosanquet mapping, showing off a bit of the new meta-colour scheme, and exploring some local sonorities. I will probably use this colour scheme in future videos and have already converted my mappings for 19, 22, 24, 27, 31, 34, 41-out-of-94, 53, 58, 72, and 94 with it. I think it's slightly more intuitive for those familiar with the piano and I think the rainbow provides a nice metaphor. While this system is definitely inspired by the colour systems of Kite Giedraitis and Dolores Catherino, it is my own spin on things, and hopefully it makes sense for newcomers. Plus it's based on my favourite division of the octave, 94, so all of its colours really approximate 25-odd-limit ratios rather well, and one can hopefully see some of those connections amongst different tunings. The natural row is white, semi-tones splitting the naturals if present are black (not present in this tuning), warmer rainbow colours are higher in pitch, cooler colours are lower in pitch. The full 16-colour rainbow goes white-light yellow-light orange-light red-dark violet-dark indigo-dark blue-dark green-black-dark yellow-dark orange-dark red-light violet-light indigo-light blue-light green-white In this little piece I use white=natural, dark yellow=pythagorean augmented and classic minor, dark green=pythagorean minor, light orange=comma-up=super, light blue=comma-down (classic major), dark indigo=subminor, light violet=submajor, and dark violet=inframinor. Don't think I used the dark red row=supraminor here. My book "Microtonality in 55 keys", a guide to intervals, scales, chords on generalised keyboards and how to use them in a wide range of microtonal tunings, is available on my website here (follow the PayPal link) https://cametaylor.wixsite.com/home/p...
