La Campanella on marimba – arr. Anders Elten | Canadian Premiere (Live)

Franz Liszt’s famous La Campanella etude for solo piano is widely regarded as one of the most daunting works in the piano repertoire. Renowned for its virtuosic leaps, rapid octaves, trills, and highly intricate technical demands, it presents a formidable challenge even for the most accomplished pianists. Given these demands, it may seem unlikely that such a work could be successfully adapted for solo marimba without compromising the integrity of the original. Yet this is precisely the challenge undertaken by Danish marimbist Anders Elten. He preserves much of the original musical material through a wide range of advanced marimba techniques, including rapid octave passages, single-handed three- and four-note chords, extended intervals, and extensive use of double and triple lateral strokes—turning the impossible into the possible. 《2026 Lin Chengwei Percussion Recital》 April 2, 2026 at 7:30PM Recital Hall, University of Lethbridge #LaCampanella #Liszt #Marimba
