Maidstone played a key role in the English Civil War, including the Battle of Maidstone near All Saints Church. During the Industrial Revolution, industries such as papermaking at Turkey Mill and brewing at Fremlin’s Brewery drove growth, supported by the arrival of the railway in 1844. In World War I, local men served with the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment, while factories supported the war effort. In World War II, Maidstone endured events like the Black Friday air raid, with memorials at Brenchley Gardens reflecting the town’s resilience.
