Jorge Bolet Plays Schumann's Carnaval (1986)

Jorge Bolet often played Schumann pieces in concert, but he made only a few recordings of works by Schumann. This was his last recording of works by Schumann. Bolet was in his 72 when he recorded this on Decca and would die 3 years later. I have this recording both on CD and on LP. I listen to it on LP than on CD and prefer the LP. It might be my imagination that the sound is smoother on the LP, but that's ok with me. As with almost everything by Bolet - I enjoy it immensely as he was always more thoughtful about the sound and the mood of his playing as he was about playing all the notes technically perfect. This was recored on a Bechstein piano and not his usual Baldwin piano so it has a bit of a different sound than his earlier (pre-Decca) recordings.
