Octopus Guard - Kids CLA Version
In this video, you’ll see how we use a constraint-led approach (CLA) inside Wolfhunter JiuJitsu Club to develop skill. Rather than teaching step-by-step moves, we design small-sided games that force athletes to solve problems in live, resisting environments. This particular game introduces the benefits of scrambles by guiding students toward the octopus guard, a position built around height and winning the race for top position. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s adaptability. By manipulating constraints like space, grips, and objectives, athletes naturally discover: How to build height from seated or grounded positions How to engage hips-over-hips in transitional scrambles How the octopus guard emerges organically as a solution, not a rule How to stay offensive while opponents are off-balanced or reacting This approach creates better decision-makers, not just better imitators. Scrambles become opportunities instead of chaos. - If you’re interested in ecological training, game-based learning, or developing athletes who can think, adapt, and apply pressure under stress, this is for you. Train with intention. Solve real problems. Hunt growth.
