Powerboat Cooling System Overview - Mercruiser TR\TRS

In this video we review the layout and operation of a raw water cooling system on a Mercruiser engine with a thru hull exhaust system, common on an offshore powerboat. This video is applicable to any raw water belt driven cooling system on a GM style marine engine. But focuses on the TR/TRS Drives and Velvet Drive transmissions. We review water flow path, hoses, pickups, sea strainers, transmission and oil coolers, pumps, impeller, thermostat and fresh water flush system. We use a 1989 Fountain Lighting 33 Swim with Mercruiser 420 model 454 engines, Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmissions and TRS drives. Filmed July 2026 BP Builds
