Gianna Rolandi, ''Glitter and Be Gay'' from Candide (1978)
We are saddened by the recent passing of American soprano Gianna Rolandi. Rolandi, following her 1975 New York City Opera debut, had a tremendous 20-year national and international career in coloratura soprano roles. She also made appearances with all of the major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra with conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Bernard Haitink, and Erich Leinsdorf. In 1978, Rolandi sang "Glitter and be Gay" from Candide at a special concert in honor of Leonard Bernstein’s 60th Birthday Celebration at Wolf Trap. Please enjoy this video from the event with John Mauceri leading the National Symphony Orchestra.
