The foundational material for learning English is a third-year junior high school English textbook, the "1000 Readings Aloud" by Masao Kunihiro, the 20th century's greatest simultaneous English interpreter. This is because the textbooks are designed to thoroughly teach grammar, vocabulary, and phrases, and the stories are fascinating. However, textbooks are not sold in general bookstores, and they only contain English sentences, without Japanese translations or grammar explanations. So, are there any commercially available textbooks that offer content comparable to a third-year junior high school textbook, along with audio and explanations of grammar and other topics? The answer is almost nonexistent. Reference books for junior high school students and high school entrance exams all focus on "problem exercises," and many of the long-form workbooks lack audio. This leads us back to third-year junior high school English textbooks. However, they lack explanations, making them difficult to use for self-study students who don't have classes. Recently, in a comment on a video introducing the Kunihiro Method, someone suggested, "Just use the textbook guide." The theme of this video is reading aloud using junior high school English textbooks and textbook guides.
