Deep in the canyons of the Khams Tibetan region, a sudden storm turned our journey into a thriller. 🏍️⚡ Zhuizhui (my Belgian Malinois) and I are continuing our heavy-duty motorcycle journey along the rugged cliffs of the Lancang (Mekong) River. In this episode, we pushed from Weixi County all the way to a remote, hidden village in Deqin County, Diqing—right into the heart of the legendary Khams Tibetan region. The plateau weather showed its fierce side. We were caught in a violent, blinding thunderstorm. With the rain hammering down, we were incredibly lucky to find shelter in an ancient, abandoned wooden cabin. ⛈️🏚️ But as night fell, the atmosphere grew tense. The storm howled outside, and from the pitch-black corners of this old wooden structure, a strange, repetitive banging noise kept echoing. It was a hair-raising night, keeping both me and my loyal watchdog Zhuizhui on absolute high alert. 🐕👀 Despite the eerie night, the morning revealed the true soul of this place. The local Tibetan villagers we met were some of the kindest, most pure-hearted people I’ve ever encountered on the road. From a nerve-wracking survival night to the incredible warmth of the Tibetan highlands, this is the raw reality of the road.
